Bullets beat Chitipa to chalk first league win

Wa Ganyu

On June 3, 2023 history was made at Karonga Stadium when Chitipa United collected maximum points over FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. They won 1-0.

It was the first time Chitipa beat Bullets. The only positive result past Bullets came on June 29, 2019 when they forced a draw after coming from a 2-0 down to force a 2-all draw at Kamuzu Stadium.

On that day, some Bullets fans gathered outside the Kamuzu Stadium demanding that coach Kallisto Pasuwa, who had just clocked a year in Malawi, be fired.

Last year’s victory over Bullets came in a space of two weeks after Chitipa beat Mighty Mukuru Wanderers away at Kamuzu Stadium.

Today Bullets recorded a sweet revenge at the same stadium beating them 0-3 in the league to chalk their first victory following their two draws against Dedza Dynamos in Dedza (1-1) and Mighty Tigers (0-0) at Kamuzu Stadium.

Today’s victory also means that Bullets have repeated a history they made against the same team on September 22, 2019 when they won 0-3 away in the league.

Of today’s match:

Pasuwa made seven changes to the team that drew Tigers last week while Chitipa coach Mcnebert Kadzuwa had three changes to the charges that walloped Karonga United 4-1.

The home team started the match on the high note as they could have managed to draw first blood in the first three minutes when Jack Beza dribbled through the Bullets’ defense passing the ball to Stimella Muyira who narrowly missed the goal by a whisker.

Bullets responded well in the 13th minute through Ernest Petro whose attempt was deflected earning the visitors their first corner.

Seven minutes later they found the back of the net as Babatunde Adepoju utilized the commotion within Chitipa’s 18-yard box.

Adepoju who played his first league match since his loan move from Venda FC could double the lead in the 35 minutes when Patrick Mwaungulu delivered a precise ball to him—setting up a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper, but his final shot went over the bar.

First half ended with Bullets narrowly leading. Second half Chitipa were first to make substitutions bringing in Mabuchi Msiska for Ken Mlenga and Bright Masebo for Stimella Muyira but it could not help them.

In the 70 minutes Pasuwa also made his first change, introducing danger man Ephraim Kondowe and Ronald Chitiyo for Adepoju and Anthony Mfune.

Ten minutes after making the change, Bullets were already two up as Kondowe doubled Bullets’ lead connecting Lloyd Aaron’s long pass.
