Nothing can stop the Central Bankers as they cemented their top position in the TNM Super League–opening a three point gap.
Silver Strikers extended their lead following their 2-0 comfortable victory against rookies Baka City, away at Karonga Stadium, on Saturday afternoon.
The Bankers took the lead through Chimwemwe Kalyala’s own goal after a ball bounced on his knee from a Chinsisi Maonga shot that hit the woodwork.
Throughout the match, the visitors enjoyed much of the possession as the hosts were second on the ball.
In the second half, the host efforts of getting an equaliser went in vain as they could not penetrate Silver’s penalty area to try shots.
With two minutes before the end of regulation time, Bankers extended their lead through Binwell Kantinji who connected a cross from 19-year old, Adiel Kaduya to beat the goalkeeper.
The visitors’ skipper, Chikondi Kamanga, was voted man of the match.
Bankers’ gaffer, Peter Mponda, said in the post-match interview that despite the victory his side did not play as planned.
“I am happy with the result but our performance was not good. We did not play as we wanted, we committed a lot of mistakes,” he said.
On his part Baka’s team manager, Alick Zingu, blamed the officiating personnel for his team’s defeat.
“These men in black sometimes officiate to frustrate other teams,” saying their decisions frustrated his boys.
The result means that Baka are still searching for their first top flight victory as they sit at the bottom of the log table with just a point from five matches.
On the other end of the table, the Bankers have extended the lead, three points ahead of second placed Mzuzu City Hammers who have 10 points from the same number of games.
