Wa Ganyu
May 18 is his birthday and on the day, he scored a beauty from the corner kick to celebrate his day in style and help his team beat Mzuzu City Hammers. Bullets fans at the stadium contributed north ofK50 000 to thank him.
This is how he scored the goal.
At 64 minutes substitutes Crispin Mapemba and Ernest Petro exchanged passes inside Mzuzu City Hammers half and Petro’s effort could have gone into the net but thanks to goalkeeper Eddie Jimu who parried the ball to give Bullets a corner kick.
As usual, dead ball specialist Patrick Mwaungulu was at the corner side to take the kick at exactly 65 minutes.
Inside the 6-yard box Bullets had the likes of Chawanangwa Gumbo, Hassan Kajoke, Precious Sambani and Blessings Mpokera, tall enough to finish the job with Hammers having four defenders and the goalie to shield the goal.
When everyone thought the ball would meet Bullets players inside the 6-yard box, it was the opposite. Mwaungulu’s shot went straight into the net and both Bullets and Hammers players could not believe it.
The corner kick went straight to the far post and dropped into the net leaving Hammers left back Chisomo Sambani’s hands at the back of his head.
This is his first goal from a direct corner kick. He spoke to Wa Ganyu saying he knew the ball would end into the net.
“I knew it would go into the net, I saw the keeper had come to the near post, so I hit it hard to the far post and it was a goal,” he said.
Mwaungulu, who has scored in three consecutive matches for Bullets— against Wanderers and Mafco FC in previous games, said he will keep working hard in every game.
“I need to produce the best in every game, so I will keep working hard to help my team,” said the 22-year-old midfielder who was voted man of the match.
Bullets won the game by two nil, with Chawanangwa Gumbo scoring the other goal. The win takes Bullets to second position, 3 points behind Silver Strikers who host in-form Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in Area 47.
