The Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) Executive Committee has resigned with immediate effect following concerns from its affiliates.
According to reports that Wa Ganyu has gathered, the development is as a result of on-going disagreements between the association and its affiliates.
The source revealed that the outgoing executive committee has issued a resignation letter, signed by President Abigail Shariff, Vice President Junier Bamusi, General Secretary Isaac Chimwala, Treasurer Agness Chaima, Vice General Secretary Diana Nkhulembe and Vice Treasure Chauncy Munthali.
Confirming the development to Wa Ganyu, Malawi National Council of Sports Chief Executive Officer, Henry Kamata, said the letter has been tendered on the 30th of May 2024.
But Kamata has assured netball lovers that as a council they will ensure there is no gap during this period.
“Per our mandate as a council is to run sports affairs in this country, we will step up to offer technical and financial support to ensure that no activities for netball are disrupted and that everything will go on as planned,” he said.
Kamata added that they respect the independence of NAM as an association and that affiliates will still exercise their mandate of electing new office bearers.
So far, it is not clear as to what has forced the committee to step down but there have been wrangles between NAM and the council over financial reports.
The committee was elected on August 7, 2021 in Salima where Shariff was elected president deputized by Chimwemwe Bakali who left his post two years ago.
