Visitors crumble in Super League games

It was a bad day in the office for all the visiting teams in Saturday’s TNM Super League action which had three games spread in all the three regions of Malawi.

Bangwe All Stars could not shine in the northern region after suffering the most humbling 4-0 defeat against Chitipa United at Karonga Stadium.

The home side went into the match occupying the second relegation spot and that was a source of motivation.

They hit the ground running and were rewarded in the 7th minute with Ramadhan Ntafu finding the back of the net with a simple finish from a Francis Nyirenda set piece.

Trouble Kajani marked his arrival at Chitipa United with the team’s second goal in the 27th minute after receiving an inviting pass from Rajab Nyirenda to give his side a 2-0 lead at half time.

Ntafu then completed a brace just after the hour mark utilising a defensive blunder by Temitope Ojeyinika.

Kajani then completed the rout with his second goal in the 85th minute to condemn Bangwe All Starts to their 9th defeat in 17 games and a drop deep into the relegation places to 15th place.

The biggest win for Chitipa United was enough to take them out of the drop zone into position 13 on goal difference.

Elsewhere, FOMO FC looked on course for a 5th win in their debut season when Ackim Mponda scored from the spot in the 68th minute following a handball by a Mzuzu City Hammers player in the box.

But FOMO’s lead lasted just 12 minutes when they conceded a penalty with a foul on Chimwemwe Chunga and Isaac Msiska scored from the resulting penalty.

Isaac Nyirenda hit Bangwe All Starts where it pains the most with a goal five minutes from time for Kondwa Ikwanga’s men to take all the points and move back to 3rd place in the standings with 28 points.

FOMO slumped into the danger zone on inferior goal difference. They are level on 15 points with 13th placed Chitipa United.

Moyale Barracks were handed a 2-0 beating away in Mulanje as Mighty Tigers recorded just their fourth win of the season to move up to 11th place in the table.

First half goals from Daniel Shadreck and Precious Chiudza proved decisive.
The Lions of Kaning’ina are placed 9th following their 4th defeat of the season.
