Eagles, Ekhaya promoted

Blue Eagles FC secured an instant return to the TNM Super League with a dominant 4-1 victory over Armour Battalion to take an unassailable lead at the top of the Chipiku Stores Central Region Premier League on Wednesday.

The Eagles went into the match at ADL Ground in Lilongwe, looking for just a point, but they knew that a win would add icing on the cake.

Their emphatic victory was a statement performance as they dismantled Mvera-based Armour Battalion with goals from Patrick Mponda, Maxwell Gustavo, Paul Master, and Checkson Alinzi. Lumbani Mkandawire scored the lone goal for the Armour Battalion.

The Police Headquarters side have won the league title with two games to spare. Blue Eagles now have 54 points from 20matches.

Villa FC are in second position with 49 points from 19 matches. The 2024 Chipiku Premier League will conclude on January 19, 2025, with the official crowning of champions Blue Eagles taking center stage.

Other notable results from midweek action include a 1-1 draw between Villa FC and St. Gabriel Zitha, Chatoloma Admarcthumped Airborne Rangers 5-0 and a 1-1 draw between Ekas Freight Wanderers and Panthers FC. In the Southern Region, Ekhaya FC also got a promotion to the elite league.  

A two nil victory on Thursday afternoon against Nyambadwe United at Kamuzu Stadium earned Ekhaya a place into the Super League. Goals from Francis Mkonda and Mwayi Banda cemented their top spot as they now lead with 31 points.

Their promotion dents the hopes of the Zomba based soldiers of making a return into the top flight as they are 4 points behind as they sit second with 27 points from 13 games following their 2 all draw against Mighty Wanderers Reserve.

Songwe Border will represent the northernregion after they got a promotion in December last year.
