Blue Eagles coach Elia Kananji has praised his players for their impressive performance in a challenging match against Ekhaya FC despite failing to win the match in regulation time.

He was speaking on Sunday afternoon after their victory in the K20 million Champions Cup which took place in Mponela, Dowa.

Kananji’s remarks followed his team’s 4-3 victory over Ekhaya FC in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw in regulation time.

Kananji noted that the match provided valuable experience for his players, especially as they prepare for the upcoming TNM league season. He also mentioned that the game allowed him to identify areas for improvement within his team before the league begins.

“The game gave our players much-needed exposure as we prepare for the league. I have identified some issues that need to be addressed before the season starts,” said Kananji.

On the other hand, Ekhaya’s assistant coach Moses Chavula acknowledged the tough nature of the match but expressed his pride in his players for their commendable performance.

He highlighted the fact that his team managed to hold Eagles from scoring during the regular 90 minutes of play.

“This was the first time my players faced such competitive opposition, and I am proud of how they played, especially under challenging circumstances,” Chavula stated.

Ekhaya played this match without their new players and it was Chavula taking charge as their coach Enos Chatama was just watching.

In terms of rewards, Eagles received K6 million as the winners, while Ekhaya FC earned K3 million for finishing second. Mbavi United secured K2 million for third place, and Chatoloma Admarc took home K1 million for fourth place.
