FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Peter Mponda has acknowledged the team’s defence problems but he emphasized that the friendly match against Kamuzu Barracks provided valuable lessons, especially as they gear up for the start of the new league season.
Mponda made these remarks on Sunday after his side played out to a 2-1 defeat to Kamuzu Barracks (KB) at Champion Stadium in Mponela, Dowa District.
Mponda made a tactical change during the match, bringing in Yamikani Mologeni and Blessings Mpokera to replace Senaji and Chawanangwa Gumbo just 15 minutes into the game when his side was already 2-0 down. This substitution reflected his efforts to address the team’s defensive frailties.
On the other hand, KB’s new recruit, John Mchema, impressed with a brace, while Hope Namadzunda scored an own goal.
Kamuzu Barracks coach Collings Mkuna expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, particularly the confidence shown by his players. Mkuna highlighted that the new faces in his squad are already integrating well into the team and playing with high energy.
“We have a lot of new faces, and I am satisfied with how they are playing. The door is still open for any players who want to join, as long as they uphold the team’s standards,” he said.
Next, Bullets are scheduled to play in Sapita 4 Bonanza and face the Blue Eagles to finalise pre-season games.
