Mpinganjira explains Chipuwa’s substitution

Mighty Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira has shed more light on his decision to introduce goalkeeper Chancy Mtete in the dying minutes against Mighty Tigers yesterday at Kamuzu Stadium.

Despite conceding two late goals in their 3-2 win over Tigers, Mpinganjira insists the substitution was part of a pre-planned strategy.

“We wanted to give Mtete game time to develop and integrate with his teammates. It’s part of our plan to build a strong team,” said Mpinganjira in a post-match press conference.

Wanderers led 3-0 courtesy of Wisdom Mpinganjira’s brace and Francisco Madinga’s opener, but Grayson Msowoya and Harrison Kapata’s strikes for Tigers in a space of 9 minutes gave huge pressure to Nomads.

Coach Mpinganjira dismissed allegations that the timing of Mtete’s introduction with only six minutes to go was a reaction to the late goals, stating that the plan was in place beforehand.

He added: “We are confident Mtete will do well, and were sticking to our strategy.”

The win marked a crucial three points for Wanderers and Mpinganjira suggested he was pleased with his team’s progress.

Nomads have two wins in two games and are on top of the league.
