Central African Republic 1-1 Malawi
Malawi Under-20 Women’s National Team has advanced to the second round of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup Qualifier after holding the Central African Republic to a 1-1 draw.
The Central African Republic took an early lead through Maimouma Daoud’s first-half goal. However, Malawi’s determination paid off when Leticia Chinyamula netted the equalizer in the second half, following a tactical substitution by coach Maggie Chombo-Sadik, who replaced Anna Baziliyo.

With this result, Malawi progressed with a 4-2 aggregate score and will now face South Sudan in the next round, scheduled for September this year.
Coach Maggie Chombo praised her players for their resilience, acknowledging the Central African Republic’s tough challenge.
“It was not easy for the girls; it was a very tough game,” said Chombo. “I saw them in Malawi—they were tough on the girls, and here they were equally challenging. I told my players not to hold onto the ball too much but to play with two touches.”
She also noted the increasing difficulty of the tournament as they progress to the next stage.
“This tournament is very tough. I know that when we play against South Sudan, it will be another challenging match. We are moving to a higher level of the competition, and I understand it will not be easy for the girls,” she added.
