Kwathu si padziko! Kananji finds it tough at Creck, no point since arrival

It’s been two weeks since Elia Kananji took over as head coach of Creck Sporting Club, but the team has yet to register a win under his leadership.

In the two matches played since his appointment, Creck has suffered back-to-back defeats, raising concerns about the team’s performance despite the recent technical changes.

The club recently parted ways with head coach Joseph Kamwendo, assistant coach Abel Mkandawire and striker’s trainer Chiukepo Msowoya due to a series of poor results.

Under the brief tenure of interim coach Harry Saidi, the team managed to win one game and draw another, defeating Mafco and holding Kamuzu Barracks to a draw.

However, the coming in of Kananji has not yielded immediate improvement. Last week, Creck suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Ekhaya FC away in Blantyre.

The struggle continued on Tuesday, June 25, 2025, with a 2-0 defeat to a struggling side, Civil Service United at Civo Stadium in the league.

Speaking after the loss, Kananji cited a lack of purpose and aggression in attack as key reasons for the defeat.

“It’s not looking good, as you know this is a crucial competition. Losing games like this is unacceptable, we shouldn’t be in this position,” said Kananji.

Civil’s Dastain Banda was the star of the match, scoring both goals to secure all three points for his side. The victory lifts Civil to 13th place on the league table with 9 points from 9 matches, while Creck sits in 11th with 11 points from 10 games.
