Bullets bemoan poor start

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women head coach, Maggie Chombo, has lamented a shaky start to the side’s performance and a poor showing, as they were held to a 1–1 draw by MDF Lioness in the National Bank of Malawi (NBM) Women’s Premiership.

The match, played at Champion Stadium in Mponela, Dowa, on Saturday, 9th August 2025, saw MDF Lioness take an early lead through Laita Magombo, with Catherine Kachala providing the assist.

The visitors responded after the break, with Pilirani Malora equalising in the 53rd minute from a pass by substitute Vanessa Issa.

Chombo admitted that her players were disorganised at the start but praised their fighting spirit and ability to respond after halftime.

“The girls showed determination because our opponents were also pushing hard. At halftime, I instructed them to keep the ball on the ground, as the first half had been mostly aerial play. We all wanted the win, but the opponents were playing a physical game,” she said.

The result means MDF Lioness are without a win in the inaugural elite league, having registered one defeat and two draws.

MDF Lioness assistant coach, Yohane Fulaye, described the encounter as tough but expressed satisfaction with the result.

“We scored early, but later made too many errors, which we will work on when we go back to the drawing board. We were chasing quick goals, which led to us losing possession. We will push harder to get our first win in the coming games,” he said.
