Newcomers Songwe Border have hit a rough patch in the first half of the 2025 TNM Super League.
After playing 15 games, Songwe have lost in 13 outings.
Their consolation lay in two draws, earning them a meagre 2 points on the log table.
Songwe have only scored five goals throughout the 15 games that they have played.
Unlike Baka City, who were the biggest stragglers and got relegated last season, they had 7 points at the end of the first round.
Songwe have only managed to score against Mafco, Kamuzu Barracks, Silver Strikers, Ekhaya FC, and Mzuzu City Hammers.
They collected their first point over Mzuzu City Hammers following a 1-1 draw.
Songwe then added another point from their last game of the first half after a goalless draw with Mighty Tigers.
Songwe remain the only team that has conceded more goals in the first round, having let in 42 goals.
Their worst loss was to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium when they lost 7-0 in their third match of the League.
Throughout the first round, the Ndenga boys have struggled to impress. They have two player of the match awards.
Lusekero Kishombe won the man of the match accolade in a match against Mzuzu City Hammers, while Bryson Kanambo won the player of the game when they hosted Mighty Tigers.
Throughout the season, Songwe Border coach, Christopher Nyambose, has been complaining about his team’s poor performance, saying his players lack maturity.
Despite finishing the first round at the foot of the table, Nyambose has hope that his team will avoid the chop in the TNM Super League.
“Rate of survival is 60 to 70 per cent. We will survive. We are remaining with 15 games, we can pull up a surprise,” said Nyambose.
“I was doing two things, building up a team, mending up the team as well as fetching points. At first we had problems in defending, but now I’m happy that we are better off,” he added.
Songwe will play Kamuzu Barracks in their first game of the second round.
