They knew that on September 16, 2025, Malawi would be conducting general elections, but the Super League of Malawi waited until September 12 to postpone games. They fixed matches on 13th and 14th September.
Their decision comes with costs. Other teams had already travelled to fulfil away fixtures, with supporters already purchasing tickets to watch matches.
The rule is simple. Cancellation of a match must be communicated 48 hours before the match day, but Sulom only issued their statement on Thursday night.
Ekhaya FC left Blantyre on Wednesday and arrived in Mponela, Dowa District, on the same day ahead of their away fixture against Mafco FC at Champions Stadium on Saturday.
Mighty Wanderers, who played on Thursday against Mzuzu City Hammers in the FDH Bank Cup at Rumphi Ground, left soon after the match and spent a night in Mponela ahead of their match against Silver Strikers in Lilongwe.
Posting on his Facebook page, Ekhaya official Mphatso Mpinganjira could not hide his disappointment with Sulom: “I have got no words for the Super League of Malawi. What happened to the 48-hour notice? What happens to expenses accumulated? Ekhaya FC was already in Mponela when you made your announcement. You gave us a go-ahead, Dzana! Sizowonayi.”

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, who were to host Dedza Dynamos at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday, started selling tickets on Tuesday this week.
Bullets’ commercial manager, Kelvin Moyo, said as of Friday morning, they had already sold a good number of tickets. Still, they promised people that everything was okay, and they should keep their tickets.
“We have taken out the tickets from the market, we will sit down with Sulom and Dedza so that we can still sell these tickets ahead of the match,” he said.
Another disappointed person is Blue Eagles player Micium Mhone, who must still be fuming at Sulom.
Per what Mhone posted, the Eagles had requested Sulom to postpone their match against Creck Sporting at Aubrey Dimba because their players were to be deployed to support the elections. But Sulom refused, only to call off the games at the eleventh hour.
