Defending champions Blue Eagles have advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 FDH Bank Cup, joining Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikers in the last eight of the competition.
The Area 30 police side cruised past Zingwangwa United yesterday with an emphatic 4–0 victory. Goals from Micium Mhone in the 6th minute, Tonic Viyuyi in the 18th, Webster Mzunda in the 74th and a late strike from Matius Nyirenda in the 87th sealed the win for the Eagles.
Head coach Derklek Msakakuona expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, praising some of the reserve team players who were handed the opportunity to feature in the match.
“The young players from our reserve side played really well. It is always encouraging to see a youngster step up and deliver when promoted to the senior team,” said Msakakuona.
He also commended individual efforts from players like Andrew Mapemba and Webster Mzunda while urging his squad to remain focused as they continue their title defense.
Reflecting on the opposition, Msakakuona noted that Zingwangwa, though a lower-league side, showed determination but lacked the tactical awareness to match the champions.
Meanwhile, fixtures in the round of 16 continue this weekend. Creck Sporting Club will face Moyale Barracks, The Boys will take on FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Red Lions will clash with Civil Service United, Bangwe All Stars meet Kamuzu Barracks, and Mchinji Villa will host Chatoloma Admarc.
