Songwe Border 1-0 Chitipa United

Each dog has its day! Songwe Border United has finally found their footing in the TNM Super League, securing their first win of the 2025 season.

The team’s journey has been disappointing, failing to 19 games since the day they were promoted into the elite league. Today the team has ended a streak of 17 losses and two draws.

Their first ever win came today at Karonga Stadium where they hammered Chitipa United 1-0. The only goal scored at the 8th minute of the first half through Owen Mwangonde was enough to go home with full points.

In a post-match interview, Songwe caretaker coach Edwin Kaonga expressed his happiness with the result.

Kaonga attributed their win to the team’s preparedness, unity and coordination between the players and the technical panel. He then urged the team to maintain their winning spirit.

“I am very excited that we have now secured our first three points from 20 games,” said Kaonga.

“I just want to urge the executive and the players to keep on pushing, they should not lose hope,” he added.

This means that the team now has five points from 20 games and still seats last on the log table. Their victory today comes days after suspending their head coach Christopher Nyambose, who has never seen a win since arrival five months ago.
