Malawi National Women’s Football team coach, Lovemore Fazili, says he is satisfied with his team’s performance despite being held to a goalless draw to Angola away.

The first leg match in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers was played on Thursday at Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda.

Speaking after the match, Fazili said it was a tough match but was impressed with how his players played, creating several chances though they failed to convert them into goals.

He expressed optimism that the Scorchers will do better in the return leg to be played on Tuesday, October 28, at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, saying his team has what it takes to progress to the next round.

The coach also applauded his defenders and goalkeeper for putting up a strong performance, noting that they handled the game well compared to previous matches.

“I have to say that we have played much better, and about the scores I think I was expecting to score more goals in the first half and second half. We had plenty of chances but we couldn’t utilize them—this is all about the game. It is promising me something; when we go home, I think we are going to finish this game,” said Fazili.
