Mighty Wanderers 2-0 Songwe United
Mighty Wanderers have taken the top spot in the TNM Super League—dislodging FCB Nyasa Big Bullets after their 2-0 win over Songwe Boarder United at Kamuzu Stadium on Wednesday.
Following today’s victory, the Nomads have accumulated 51 points from 21 games surpassing the People’s team who have 49 points from 21 games.
Although Wanderers emerged victorious, they faced a resilient Songwe side that held their ground for a significant portion of the match. Songwe’s determination was evident as they successfully contained Wanderers’ attacks until the 86th minute when the Nomads found the back of the net through Clement Nyondo.
The home team created a number of scoring chances, but their strikers were struggling to take them into the net. Early chances for the Nomads were squandered by Muhammad Sulumba, who failed to finish twice in the opening minutes.
Nyondo’s 86th minute strike proved to be the game changer, providing much needed relief and momentum for Wanderers after a frustrating spell of missed chances.
Wanderers sealed a convincing 2-0 victory over Songwe, with Sama Thierry scoring the second goal in the 7 minutes of added time.
Nomads’ coach Bob Mpinganjira said: “We created a lot of chances but we couldn’t score. I am very happy that we didn’t give up, we kept on working hard, kept on creating chances and then at last we got those two goals.”
“We need to work extra hard, we need to win some games if we want to win the championship,” he added.
Despite losing the game to Wanderers, Songwe coach, Edwin Kaonga thanked his players for an impressive performance.
