Songwe Border United have become the first team to be relegated from the 2025 TNM Super League after losing 3–0 to Mzuzu Hammers on Wednesday afternoon at Karonga Stadium.

The relegation comes despite the team still having five games left to complete the second round of the TNM Super League. Songwe have collected only 6 points from 25 matches, registering just one win, three draws and suffering 21 defeats.

Technical Director Gift Chilongo said the team has struggled throughout the season and confirmed that their focus has now shifted to preparing for life in the National Division League next season.

He said the club plans to retain all its current players to strengthen their chances of making a quick return to the Super League.

“Yes, definitely we have been relegated, but we are not going to take long. We will bounce back from the National League because we are not going to lose any player. We will keep them so that we can challenge for the next title,” said Chilongo.

With this win, Mzuzu Hammers have moved to 23 points from 25 matches, although they also remain in danger of relegation just like Dedza Dynamos who are third from bottom; they have played 24 games collecting only 24 points.
