First week of the FDH Bank Premiership League delivered an encouraging start, producing 14 goals across seven matches played at various venues nationwide.
Although one scheduled fixture failed to take place, the first week offered competitive action. Of the seven matches played, only three produced maximum points, while the remaining encounters ended in draws, reflecting a tightly contested start to the season.
Early pace-setters have emerged, with Silver Strikers, Masters FC and Blue Eagles registering victories in their opening matches to collect maximum points and set the tone for the campaign.
In the 2024 Super League season, the first week registered 16 goals from all matches played, with a total of 18 points collected across eight fixtures. Two matches ended in draws, indicating a moderately competitive start.
However, in the 2025 season, delivered a more attacking and decisive opening week. A total of 19 goals were scored across all eight matches, with every fixture producing a winner. This resulted in the maximum 24 points being collected, as no match ended in a draw.
In contrast, the 2026 FDH Premiership has started with fewer goals and more shared points.
The league’s momentum continues despite the uncertainty surrounding sponsorship following FDH Bank’s suspension of its support. Attention now shifts to week two fixtures scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, 2 May 2026, and Sunday, 3 May 2026.
On Saturday, Ekhaya FC will face Red Lions at Mpira Stadium, while Mitundu Baptist FC hosts Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium. In the north, Chitipa United will take on Blue Eagles at Karonga Stadium, as Silver Strikers host Moyale Barracks at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.
On Sunday, Creck Sporting Club will clash with defending champions Mighty Wanderers at Civo Stadium. FCB Nyasa Big Bullets will host Mafco FC at Joyce Chitsulo Stadium in Mwanza, while Karonga United face Masters FC at Karonga Stadium. Elsewhere, Dedza Dynamos will be at home against Civil Service United in Dedza.
With early momentum building and competition intensifying, the second round of fixtures offers teams an opportunity to consolidate their positions in what is shaping up to be a closely contested season.
