Mzuzu City Hammers players accuse club of withholding Castel Challenge Cup bonuses

Players at Plascon Paint City Hammers, formerly Mzuzu City Hammers, have accused the club of failing to pay their promised share of prize money after reaching the semi-finals of the 2025/26 Castel Challenge Cup.
In a complaint addressed to Wa Ganyu, the players claim the club received K12 million after their 2-0 semi-final defeat to eventual champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, but has allegedly failed to distribute the agreed share to the squad.
According to the players, club officials initially told them the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) had not yet released the funds. However, the players say enquiries with FAM confirmed the payment had already been made to the club.
The players further allege that management later informed them that part of the money had been used to settle travel debts from the trip to Blantyre for the semi-final.
Despite this explanation, the players say the club has not communicated how the remaining funds will be distributed.
“We are very disappointed,” reads part of the complaint. “Even with the club securing sponsorship for the 2026/27 season, we are still struggling to receive our dues.”
Mzuzu City Hammers have not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
