Mponda takes Masters FC to the top as Mafco, Karonga secure first wins

By Andrew Mdzumira

Week Five of the 2026 FDH Bank Premiership delivered drama, dominant performances and crucial results. Mafco FC and Karonga United finally recorded their first wins of the season, while Masters FC moved to the top of the table after an emphatic Sunday victory.

Mafco end winless run in style

Mafco FC produced an impressive second-half display to beat Chitipa United 2-0 at Champion Stadium in Mponela, Dowa, securing their first victory of the campaign in front of home supporters.

After a balanced first half, Salima-based Mafco introduced Clifford Msowoya at the start of the second period. Msowoya made an immediate impact, opening the scoring in the 46th minute with a finish from a Zikani Sichinga cross, then doubled the lead three minutes later to complete a quick brace.

The win moves Mafco to 10th on the table with six points from five matches, following three draws, one defeat and one victory so far this season.

Karonga celebrate first away win

Karonga United also celebrated their first win of the season, edging Civil Service United 1-0 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Godfrey Sibale’s 33rd-minute strike proved decisive, earning the northern side maximum points and sparking celebrations among Karonga supporters.

Karonga now have five points from four matches — one win, two draws and one defeat — with their opening fixture against Mighty Wanderers postponed. The result lifts them to 12th in the standings.

Masters FC produce hat-trick heroics to go top

Masters FC continued their strong start with a commanding 4-0 victory over Goshen City Dedza Dynamos at Bingu National Stadium.

Hastings Ndau stole the show with a hat-trick, while Enock Kaonga added a fourth to complete a dominant evening for Peter Mponda’s side.

The win propels Masters FC to the top of the FDH Bank Premiership table with 12 points from five matches. Masters have won four of their five games, their only defeat coming earlier in the campaign against Silver Strikers.

Wanderers and Silver share the spoils in Zomba

Defending champions Mighty Wanderers and FDH Bank Cup holders Silver Strikers played out a goalless draw at Zomba Stadium on Sunday.

Wanderers came into the match on the back of a 2-0 win over Luanar Mitundu FC, while Silver had beaten Masters 3-0 in their previous outing. Despite several attempts, neither side could find a breakthrough.

Silver Strikers remain second with 10 points from five matches, two behind leaders Masters FC. Mighty Wanderers sit seventh with seven points from four games. Both teams have recorded one league defeat this season.

Dedza Dynamos and Creck continue to struggle

Goshen City Dedza Dynamos’ difficult start continued with the heavy 4-0 loss to Masters FC. The Dedza-based side remains at the bottom of the table with one point from five matches and is still searching for its first win.

Pressure is also mounting on Creck Sporting Club after a 1-0 defeat to Moyale Barracks at Rumphi Stadium on Saturday. Creck have two draws and three defeats from five matches, leaving them second from bottom with two points.
