After 12 games, Chirwa is fired, Bullets back on the market

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have parted ways with their interim head coach, Gilbert Chirwa, after he led the team in 12 matches across all competitions.

Chirwa took charge on December 21 last year after the club had fired Peter Mponda, whom Chirwa had been deputising. Mponda was kicked out following a draw with Mighty Tigers in the top-flight league, which cost the club a chance of clinching the title.

In a statement released on Thursday afternoon, the club said the two sides had agreed to part ways, and details of the replacement would be announced in the coming days.

“FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Gilbert Chirwa have agreed to part ways regarding his position as head coach. Chirwa was appointed interim head coach in December 2025 and guided The People’s Team to Castel Challenge Cup success and a second-place finish in the final season of the TNM Super League era.

“The club sincerely thanks Chirwa for his contribution and wishes him every success in his future endeavours. Further communication regarding the head coach position will be issued in due course,” reads part of the statement.

Chirwa has won eight matches, drawn three and lost a single match against arch-rival Mighty Wanderers in the 2026 charity shield.

Bullets are expected to host Moyale Barracks on Sunday at Mwanza Stadium in the FDH Bank Premiership and Haston Munthali will take charge as the team is hunting for Chirwa’s replacement.
