Struggling Creck Sporting Club on Thursday unveiled Flames legend, Ernest Mtawali, as its new head Coach, hoping to resurrect the team, which has started poorly in the FDH Premiership.
The appointment of Mtawali comes just hours after the Lilongwe-based team parted ways with Eliya Kananji, whom the club suspended twice before officially firing him, along with some of his backroom staff.
Other members who faced the chop include Kananji’s assistant coach Harrison Saidi and data analyst and a physical trainer Blessings Tembo.
Speaking in an interview soon after being unveiled, Mtawali said he believes that the team’s performance is going to improve with the same squad.
“I am happy to be here. I know they started badly this year. But with the crop of players they have, the team will improve,” said Mtawali.
The team’s general secretary, Aaron Mtaya, said presently Mtawali has not been given any targets, but what they want is to see the team on the safer side of the log table of the top tier.
“We have not given him targets, but we just want to see an improvement. We want to move from the relegation danger,” he said.
Presently, Creck sits in first position from the bottom with just two points from six matches played.
