Silver blames draw on departure of Lamech

Silver Strikers assistant coach Mapopa Msukwa blamed his side’s one-all draw with Civil Service United on the midweek departure of versatile right back, Macdonald Lamech, saying the sudden exit disrupted matchday preparations and unsettled the team.

“We had all the players training with us until Thursday, when we were told Lamech had left us. Those who normally play on the right flank had not trained with the team, but we are satisfied with the result,” Mapopa said.

Lamech has reportedly sealed a move to Zimbabwe’s Hard Rock. Team captain Uchizi Vunga is also rumoured to be close to joining the growing Malawi contingent in Zimbabwe.

Lamech’s departure ends a productive two-year spell at Silver. Since joining the Central Bankers in 2024, he established himself as one of the league’s most reliable players, helping the club to a league title, earning the Best Defender award, playing a key role in the 2025 FDH Cup victory and featuring in Silver’s return to the CAF Champions League that ended across the border, in Tanzania.
