The curtain has come down on Uchizi Vunga’s memorable spell at Silver Strikers following his completed transfer to Zimbabwean top-flight side CAPS United, a departure that further erodes the experienced backbone that led Silver to their recent league triumph. Having already lost captain Chikondi Kamanga at the start of the season and versatile defender McDonald Lamech just last week, Silver now bids farewell to yet another key leader from their title-winning core.
Vunga departs the Central Bankers after cementing his reputation as one of the club’s most influential midfielders, a successful journey that began in 2021 when he arrived from Ekwendeni Hammers (now Mzuzu City Hammers).
Throughout his time at Silver Strikers, the left-footed midfielder became a pivotal figure in the squad and was ultimately entrusted with the captain’s armband at the start of the 2026/27 season, a testament to his leadership both on and off the pitch.
Vunga’s impact was central to some of the club’s most significant achievements. He played a crucial role in guiding Silver Strikers to the 2024 TNM Super League title, with his exceptional performances earning him the Best Midfielder award at both club and league levels.
He was also instrumental in the club’s 2025 Charity Shield and FDH Cup triumphs and contributed to Silver’s historic run in the CAF Champions League, where the team reached the second preliminary round on its debut.
Silver Strikers Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba praised Vunga’s dedication and immense contribution to the club.
“Uchizi was one of our senior players, and we are extremely happy that he has found an opportunity in Zimbabwe to further his football career. We wish him great success as he embarks on this new chapter. He is truly an outstanding player,” said Chimimba.
Vunga’s final appearance for Silver Strikers came on June 14 against Karonga United in the first leg of the Airtel Top 8 quarterfinals, closing the book on a successful chapter with the club.
