Ekhaya FC secured a place in the Airtel Top Eight final for the first time in their history after defeating Karonga United two-one in Saturday’s semi-final.

Competing for the first time, Ekhaya continued their remarkable run, having eliminated defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the quarter-finals.

Allen Chihana gave Ekhaya the lead in the forty-fourth minute before Lonnex Kiwambe equalised from the penalty spot for Karonga United in the forty-ninth minute.

Chimwemwe Chunga restored Ekhaya’s lead in the seventy-fourth minute, and his strike proved enough to send the debutants into the final.

Ekhaya head coach Enos Chatama welcomed the victory but said his side’s mission is not yet complete.

“Reaching the final is a big achievement, but it is not enough. We must go a step further and win the trophy,” said Chatama.

Karonga United coach Christopher Chinkwita expressed pride in his players despite the defeat, saying they delivered a strong performance.

“I want to congratulate my boys. They put up a valiant fight. One could say the best team lost today, but that is football. Sometimes you play well, but the result does not go your way,” said Chinkwita.

Chinkwita added that his youthful squad showed promise and will continue to improve with experience.

Ekhaya will face either Mighty Wanderers or Blue Eagles, who meet in the second semi-final on Sunday, as they bid to complete a dream debut campaign by lifting the Airtel Top Eight trophy.
