Malawi Legends 0-0 Zambia Legends
Age is just a number; this old saying came true on Saturday when Malawi and Zambia legends played at the Bingu National Stadium pitch in Lilongwe.
Just after the first whistle, both teams started showing an amazing performance but the Zambia side settled faster than the hosts.
Clifford Mulenga, a Zambian legend made a first goal attempt during the match which was saved by Malawi team goalkeeper Simplex Nthala.
Ernest Mtawali, Fisher Kondowe, Chiukepo Msowoya, Joseph Kamwendo showed an outstanding performance during the match.
Nthala denied James Chamanga’s powerful shot that would have changed the story in the 19th minute in the first half. Nthala cleared another danger from Francis Kombe in the second half.
Malawi later had a golden opportunity to put the ball into the net but Ng’ambe missed it. Despite an impressive performance, the match ended in a tie, with both teams scoreless.
Speaking after the match, Zambia coach Patrick Phiri expressed satisfaction with the draw.
“We have seen a strong team and we have failed to win, so we are happy with the draw,” he said.
On his side Malawi coach Young Chimodzi says he sees future in the players and would love to play international games after every six months.
“We would love it if we could play maybe every six months a game, an international one, I think that would be good,” he said.
Jimmy Zakazaka replaced Peter Mponda, Football Association of Malawi president Fleetwood Haiya replaced Mtawali, Gilbert Chirwa came in for Fisher Kondowe and Msowoya paved the way for Cedric Nankhumwa.
When they met last year the match ended 2-1 in favour of Zambia legends.
