A ‘no-go-zone’ as Silver fail to bank in Dedza

In a similar spirited performance shown at their backyard in the past season, Dedza Dynamos forced Silver Strikers to settle for a one-all draw on Saturday at Dedza Stadium in the third week of the TNM Super League.

The game came with a lot of expectations as the home team held the defending champions, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the league opener and the visitors were coming from a perfect start after securing all maximum points in two home games.

From the first whistle, the game promised to be an attacking contest with both teams fighting to break the deadlock.

The home team took the lead at 39 minutes through Victor Lungu who headed in a Khumbo Banda cross. A slender lead that they held onto recess time.

Silver head coach Peter Mponda made a triple change at the beginning of the second half, bringing in two of his signings, Charles Chipala and Paul Kamsungwi with Zebron Kalima while resting Adiel Kaduya, Gift Chunga and Uchizi Vunga.

The Bankers kept pushing for an equaliser but Dedza could not let go of their lead that easily. At 56 minutes Mponda added in more attackers by bringing in Stain Davie in place of Mark Fodya.

Dedza coach Andrew Bunya freshened his charges’ legs at 70 minutes with a double substitution, introducing Rodwell Robert and Limbani Phiri for Victor Lungu and Joseph Balakasi.

The much needed parity almost came to the Area 47 outfit when Paul Kansungwi missed a golden seater from a Binwell Katinji pass to keep the scoresheet in favor of the home team.

Four minutes after Kansungwi’s miss, it was the former Dedza Dynamos man, Charles Chipala, who snatched the ball to level the scores at 75 minutes following a good exchange of passes between Katinji and Idana.

As Jimmy Phiri blew his whistle to mark the end of the match Dynamos had kept their unbeaten record in the league at home against Silver Strikers and Bullets.
