Bangwe All Stars Coach Christopher Nyambose claims his side is ready for the TNM Super League, just days after roping in the services of Clever Chikwata, top scorer from Ntopwa FC. The promising hitman joins Bangwe ahead of the new season which kicks off this weekend.
The Blantyre-based team will start their campaignon Saturday against the debutants, Friends of Mulanje Orphans (FOMO), at Mulanje Park Stadium.
Chikwata, known for his goal-scoring prowess, has signed a two-year contract with Bangwe after an impressive season with Ntopwa FC, who lost to Bangwe in the finals of the Southern Region Thumbs Up Premier Division. Ntopwa FC Head Coach and owner, Jomo Isaac Osman, confirmed Chikwata’s move to Bangwe but declined to disclose the transfer fee.
During a busy transfer window that saw them fight against Mighty Mukuru Wanderers over players, Bangwe All Stars has secured signatures of Davie Tobias, Erik Atsigah and Josiah Duwa from Karonga United, Gregory Mwase from Extreme FC, and Felix Demakude from Big Bullets, among others.
Head Coach Christopher Nyambose believes the team is focused on the new season, emphasizing the importance of starting with a win. However, he warns against underestimating FOMO, acknowledging the potential challenges of playing away.
On the other hand, Bangwe All Stars has lost their talisman Robert Saizi to Zambia’s Zanaco Football Club, and Chikumbutso Salima, Emmanuel Saviel, and Yamikani Mologen who returned to parent club FCB Nyasa Big Bullets after loan spells.
The team’s CEO and owner Mphatso Jika believes his side have been strengthened enough to improve upon last season’s sixth-place finish and break into the traditional top three teams.
Prior to the league opener, Bangwe camped in Nsanje where they played friendly games. They also travelled to Mozambique where they narrowly lost to UD Songo by a goal to nil.
