Excitement was the prevailing atmosphere among Women Football enthusiasts as Online betting platform Betpawa unveiled a K273 million sponsorship deal.
The one year agreement was announced on Friday afternoon at Capital Hotel in Lilongwe.
This became the first national championship to be competed by Women Football teams in the country.
Under its Locker room bonus initiative, the winning team will be pocketing K1 012 000 while each of the 23 players and three technical staff members will each be getting K44 000 per game.
Under the partnership, outstanding players of the season will share K8.7 million.
Speaking during the launch, Betpawa’s Southern and West Africa Regional manager corporate social responsibility and sports development Ashong Katai said this investment underscores Betpawa’s commitment to developing the game of women football.
On his behalf FAM first vice president Madalitso Kuyera was all smiles describing the partnership as an instant game booster.
The initiative is called Locker room because this money will be paid to the players and winning immediately after the final whistle.
