History failed to repeat itself in the Airtel Top 8 today as Civil Service United and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets played a goalless draw in the second leg of their quarterfinal meeting at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
Bullets, who won the first leg 2-0 at their home stadium, secured a 2-0 aggregate victory, finding themselves a place in the semifinals.
Despite creating scoring opportunities, neither team found the back of the net. Only a few shots were on target, this draw marked the end of Civil’s 2024 journey in the Airtel Top 8.
Speaking after the match, Bullets coach Kalisto Pasuwa, reflected on the team’s performance.
“In the second half, we tried to attack more, but could not convert our chances. To succeed, we need to maintain this aggression and create more scoring opportunities,” Pasuwa stated.
After being booted out of Airtel Top 8, Civil Service assistant coach Wilson Chidati expressed his thoughts on the game.
“Despite the loss, I am proud of the boys. Our focus now shifts to the TNM Super League, starting with our match against Silver Strikers next week,” Chidati explained.
“Obviously, we are disappointed with today’s result. We had hoped to win, however, football is unpredictable, and we will move forward, looking ahead to our next challenge,” he added.
Bullets joined Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Silver Strikers in the semifinals. The Peoples team will be waiting for the winner between Kamuzu Barracks and Chitipa United at the same venue tomorrow.
