Bullets get three wins in 7 games

Mkango ukanyowa usauyese ndi mphaka to play with, so they say. Getting two wins in six games posed a green light for Mzuzu City Hammers to get a positive result when facing FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.

However, it was not that possible on Saturday afternoon as the Hammers were hammered by two goals to nil at Kamuzu Stadium in the TNM Super League.

Interestingly, Hammers were punished by their own sons Chawanangwa Gumbo and Patrick Mwaungulu who started their trade in Mzuzu City and as a result, they could not celebrate their goals.

Gumbo was the first player to punish the Hammers, tapping home an easy pass from Babatunde Adepoju to send Bullets ahead just 7 minutes into the first half.

Lanjesi Nkhoma could have doubled Bullets’ lead five minutes later after being put through before a yawning goal, but hit the post following a beautiful counter attack, and from the rebound, Gumbo was stopped by Teaser Nyirenda.

Adepoju and Hassan Kajoke had good chances to score but their combination failed to bring fruits.

At 30 minutes the visitors could have levelled matters following a blunder at the Bullets’ back by Colin Mujuru but keeper Richard Chimbamba rescued the situation.

Bullets coach Kallisto Pasuwa could not hold his temper but to replace Mujuru with Yamikani Mologeni, switching Gomezgani Chirwa to play as centre-back partnering Blessings Mpokera with Mologeni and captain Precious Sambani anchoring right and left backs respectively.

The Peoples team created chances, but lacked clinical finishing. The first half ended with Bullets registering three shots on target against one from the visitors.

Two minutes into the second half, Adepoju had a chance to double the lead for Bullets but he failed to score with just the keeper Eddie Jamu to beat, his first attempt was saved and from the rebound, he failed to put the ball into an open net.

Bullets were two up at 66 minutes courtesy of Mwaungulu whose corner kick went straight into the net and people could not believe it.

Bullets made changes two minutes later bringing in Ernest Petro and Crispin Mapemba for Kajoke and Gumbo while Hammers introduced Aubrey Simbi and Precious Phiri replacing Matthews Banda and Chawanangwa Mkandawire.

There was nothing to change the shoreline as Bullets registered their third win and dislodged Hammers on second position, Hammers have now dropped to third position and both have 13 points from seven games.
