MMF Marine 1-3 Bullets
A sad ending to MMF Marine after losing to defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Dedza Ground, a ground they thought history will favour them.
It looked like it would be an easy game for Marine knowing Bullets have not won a match at Dedza but in turn of events Bullets ended their Dedza jinx and progressed to set up a semifinal clash against Mzuzu City Hammers.
It all started with Lloyd Aaron who scored the first goal for Bullets in the 19th minute before Wongani Lungu doubled their lead at 42 minutes.
Marine’s Alex Mbewe then scored a consolation goal in the 53rd minute which gave them hope to come back in the game but it was over at 62th minute when left back Alick Lungu scored a stunning goal almost 40 yards from a free kick into the back of the net.
After the match, Bullets head coach Kalisto Pasuwa complained about the condition of the pitch and weather.
“We have been travelling a lot and also we have been playing in a weather which is not okay. I think in this Cup we have got three games now playing when it’s raining and the pitch itself it’s not suitable for a team to play football,” he said.
Marine coach, Kenwood Nkhoma, who knocked out Dedza Dynamos 5-4 on penalties in the round of 16 said his boys lacked experience saying Bullets just came to score goals.
“The boys lacked concentration, they failed to defend set pieces and when Bullets approached us, they failed to hold them,” said Kenwood.
Bullets, who knocked out Hilltop 1-0 in round of 16 finished the match with ten men following a red card to midfielder Frank Willard for a bad foul.
