FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have improved significantly under head coach Wedson Nyirenda, particularly in defence. Before his appointment on 10 June 2026, the team had struggled to prevent opponents from scoring.
Before Nyirenda took charge, Bullets played six league matches, winning two, drawing four and losing none. They scored five goals and conceded five.
The People’s Team drew 2-2 with Civil Service United and shared the points with Red Lions, Moyale Barracks and Blue Eagles. They won two matches: a 1-0 win over Mafco FC and a 2-1 win over Mighty Wanderers.
Bullets’ defensive record has since improved, with Kamuzu Barracks and Dedza Dynamos as the only teams to score against them in the league during Nyirenda’s tenure.
Since his appointment, Bullets have played 11 league matches, winning nine, drawing one and losing one. They lost to Dedza Dynamos in a match Nyirenda missed after travelling home to attend his mother’s funeral. Heston Munthali took charge as the team lost 1-0.
Bullets have kept clean sheets against Masters, Creck Sporting Club, Ekhaya FC, Chitipa United, Karonga United, Luanar, Silver Strikers, Blue Eagles and Mafco FC.
Their biggest victory during this period was a 5-0 thrashing of Silver Strikers. They also beat Mafco FC 3-0. Other victories came against Kamuzu Barracks (2-1), Masters (1-0), Creck Sporting Club (2-0), Chitipa United (2-0), Karonga United (1-0) and Blue Eagles (2-0).
The team also drew goallessly against Ekhaya FC and Luanar, while Dedza Dynamos remain the only side to beat them in the league.
The contrast between the two periods highlights Bullets’ improved defensive performance. They conceded five goals in their first six matches before Nyirenda’s appointment, while under his leadership only two of their 11 league opponents have managed to score.
