Mafco is coming from dizzy outings. Conceding five goals against Silver Strikers and three against Dedza Dynamos gave them fears of the worst to come when they welcomed defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Dwangwa Ground.
However, the story was different, they were about to snatch their first win of the season past Bullets, but an 87th minute free kick from Patrick Mwaungulu shuttered Mafco’s hopes.
Bullets made a couple of alterations to the team that started against Mighty Mukuru Wanderers following injuries to Ephraim Kondowe and Clyde Senaji.
Bullets gaffer Kalisto Pasuwa gave captain Precious Sambani and Babatunde Adepoju their start while welcoming back Collin Mujuru who missed the Blantyre derby due to an injury.
It was the visiting team that settled very quickly, winning a lot of corners in search of an early lead that never came.
As minutes went it was now a midfield battle with Bullets registering one shot on target in 25 minutes.
Three minutes later, the first attempt of the soldiers awarded them a goal through Innocent Makawano. A slender lead that the soldiers held on to recess time.
In the last half the visitors upped their game by making a quick substitution in the second half. Yankho Singo paved the way for Ronald Chitiyo.
It was now Bullets’ turn to throw everything at Mafco in search of an equaliser but Sambani and Chitiyo found their shots going wide.
Makawano almost secured a brace at 54 minutes but his shot hit the side to keep the scores unchanged.
At 64 minutes Pasuwa introduced Lanjesi Nkhoma for Hassan Kajoke. Nkhoma almost registered his name on the score sheet at 76 minutes but his powerful header was stopped by the post.
Bernard Chimaimba missed a golden chance to bury the game at 70 minutes when he was found unmarked in the 6 yard box with just Nyasulu to beat and his attempt went wide.
In search of something, Anthony Mfune was thrown into the flare resting Sambani as the visitors kept pushing for an equaliser whilst the home team made their first change at 75 minutes when Paul Phiri came in for Stain Malata.
It was at 87 minutes when Mwaungulu secured a point for the visiting team when he scored from a direct free kick closer to the 18 yard box.
With the draw Bullets stands fourth on the log table with 10 points from 6 games whilst Mafco are 15th with 3 points from the same number of games.
