Malawi 2-1 Zambia
Malawi Under 20 coach Milias Pofera Jegwe has asked Malawi president Lazarus Chakwera to call for a public holiday after his charges knocked out Zambia to reach the COSAFA Region 5 Games final.
Malawi progressed after hammering their neighbour Zambia 2-1 with man of the moment Mwisho Mhango scoring the brace.
This victory means that Malawi have made it into the final after 22 years of waiting as the last time they qualified for the final was in 2003 and failed short to Zambia.
Jegwe called on Malawians to celebrate, also telling Chakwera to react to the victory by calling for a public holiday.
“This victory goes to Malawians who have been waiting for this for a longer time. Even the president in Malawi Dr. Chakwera should declare a public holiday for this win as we dominate this city,” he said.
Malawi will face South Africa on Sunday who demolished Angola 2-0 while Zambia will take on Angola tomorrow for the third place.
The junior Flames were the first to score at just 3 minutes of the first half after Mhango cruised past three defenders before slotting the ball into the net.
Zambia levelled at 39 minutes through Billy Daka who headed the ball into the net from the free kick.
At 69 minutes Mhango completed his brace from the free kick two yards to the penalty box and it was over for the Zambia side.
