It’s the end of the road for coach Enos Chatama and Ekhaya FC as the two parties have agreed to part ways for the ‘the best interest of the team.’
This means that Chatama’s dream to make Ekhaya FC Mighty by 2028 has come to an end.
This is what he promised when he took charge of the team on January 30, 2025. “I want to make Ekhaya a team to fear by 2028.”
The former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve coach was speaking when the club had only just stepped into the elite FDH Bank Premiership after earning promotion from the Southern Region Football League.
On Tuesday, the club announced that they have parted ways with the under 20 National team coach.
The club confirmed the decision through an official statement on its platforms, describing the move as being made “for the best interests of the team and club objectives for the season and beyond.”
The decision comes just days after Chatama guided Ekhaya to an Airtel Top 8 cup victory beating Mighty Wanderers 2-1 at Bingu National Stadium. Ekhaya became the first debutants to win the cup cruising past defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
His assistant Fundi Akidu will replace him as acting head coach per the club’s statement.
Is it a matter of performance?
Football fans are questioning why Chatama is fired just days after lifting the Airtel Cup, a matter of performance?
Wa Ganyu data for 2026 season is against Chatama as results were not coming, perhaps he was at ease looking at his 2028 targets to make Ekhaya Mighty.

Soon after his suspension, Ekhaya picked form under Akidu’s leadership. He guided his side to three consecutive victories. That impressive run lifted Ekhaya to fifth place in the standings with nine points from a possible twelve—a clear improvement on their early form.
Data collected by Wa Ganyu shows that Chatama was in charge for 11 league matches this year, managing just 1 win, 6 draws and 4 defeats.
In contrast, his side excelled this year in the Airtel Top 8, beating Karonga United 2-1, eliminating Bullets on penalties after two 1-1 draws, and defeating Wanderers 2-1 in the final to lift the trophy.
As the first round of the FDH Bank Premiership season concludes, Ekhaya sit 11th on the table with 18 points from 15 matches.
