Chinsinsi cha Maonga damages Bullets’ unbeaten story

It is finished! For 11 years, Silver Strikers failed to beat FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the league at Kamuzu Stadium. Their last win was  a 2-1 victory late in 2013.

As they say, every dog has its day; on June 2, 2014 history had to be repeated when Bullets lost 1-0 thanks to a lone goal from super substitute Chinsinsi Maonga.

The goal came at 90 minutes when Maonga had just stayed two minutes in the field of play. He replaced Binwell Katinji when Bullets were attacking.

Bullets’ attack was defended by Silver conceding a corner kick which was delivered by Patrick Mwaungulu, well defended by Silver and their counter found Maonga from Patrick Macheso. Gomezgani Chirwa and Yankho Singo raced Maonga but it was not enough as Maonga managed to beat goalkeeper Innocent Nyasungu to send Bankers ahead.

The game could not proceed as Bullets supporters pelted missiles at the stadium demanding referee Gift Chicco to halt the game for about 20 minutes and in the end he blew the whistle as it could not restate.

Maonga’s goal was enough to end Bullets’ unbeaten run at Kamuzu Stadium, let alone a first defeat of the season for the defending champions.

How the match progressed?

Bullets are to blame for the loss as they were ahead in every department but their challenge was finishing as strikers came to finish their own team not the opponent.

In the first half, Bullets pressed and had four shots on target but Silver keeper George Chikooka denied them a goal.

A golden opportunity came through but striker Babatunde Adepoju failed to finish home a cross in an empty net. First half ended with Silver not registering a shot on target.

Second half, Bullets were so good at finding the back of the net through Lanjesi Nkhoma and Patrick Mwaungulu but were denied by Chikooka. Babatunde came again missing in the 6-yard box.

Babatunde was replaced by Hassan Kajoke and minutes later Bullets created another scoring opportunity which was missed by Chirwa sending the ball away just two yards to the goal line.

With three shots on target in the second half, Bullets were punished by the visitors who just had two shots on target the entire game.
