Creck beat Fomo to move up to eighth

A lone first half goal from Stain Patrick was enough for Creck Sporting Club to earn a third victory in the TNM Super league after hammering a Mulanje based side, Fomo, 1-0 in a match played at Civo stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday afternoon.

Patrick scored at 36 minutes into the match after he connected a well taken free kick by Tathedwa Willard a few centimetres away from the penalty area.

Overall, the visitors dominated possession in the first half as they made several attempts to get goals but Emmanuel Nyirenda was alert in goals for Creck.

Fans watched a not much entertaining second half as both sides failed to settle properly. For Creck, their main task was to defend and stop FOMO from getting an equaliser.

Former Silver Strikers attacker, Hardy Ng’andu, was voted man of the match at the end of the encounter for his performance which helped Creck come back from two back to back defeats to earn victory.

In a post-match interview, Creck’s head coach MacDonald Mtetemera said the confidence in his boys is coming back and he is hopeful that Saturday’s performance will be maintained.

“We prepared, we knew they would come flat-out, I am happy that we have collected maximum points. We need to fix a few things,” he said.

FOMO’s head coach, Gilbert Chirwa, blamed the officiating personnel for his team’s loss saying Creck had been deploying delaying tactics throughout the match after they scored and referee, Jimmy Phiri, was just watching.

“I haven’t liked the officiation today. They demoralized us. You would see that they were giving free kicks only to Creck and after our friends had scored, they started using delaying tactics but the referee was just watching.

“I am sure the spectators can testify that we have performed better today, we controlled much of the possession, anyway….” he said.

The result has pushed Creck up to eighth on the log with 10 points while Fomo is now on position five from the bottom with seven points.
