The Central Region Football Association (CRFA) has directed its referees’ wing to ensure impartial officiating in the Gojet Investment Division One League following complaints over alleged favouritism towards home teams.

The directive follows concerns raised by Chimbiya Stars coach Paul Chikalema over the conduct of match officials during league matches.

In a letter signed by CRFA General Secretary Antonio Manda, the association says it has received complaints from several teams alleging that referees favour home sides when they play away.

The letter identifies Dowa, Mchinji and Kasungu as districts where the concern has been particularly raised.

The three districts are home to several teams competing in the league. In Mchinji, the teams include Ngwangw’azi-Wimbe, Mchinji Villa and Mchinji Boma Strikers. Dowa has Mponela FC, Armour Battalion and Kalembelembe while Kasungu is home to TN Stars, Manzo-Chiso and Santhe Admarc.

However, the letter does not accuse any of the named teams of influencing referees or engaging in wrongdoing.

CRFA has instead asked its referees’ wing to ensure that match officials remain neutral and uphold fairness regardless of whether a team is playing at home or away.

Chimbiya coach Chikalema had earlier expressed his frustration over his team’s chances of collecting maximum points away from home.

“A team cannot get all the maximum points at Mponela Community ground,” said Chikalema.

CRFA’s intervention comes as the association seeks to address concerns over officiating and safeguard fairness and credibility in the Gojet Investment Division One League.
