Civil 3-0 Karonga
A record was made by super substitute Festus Duwe on Sunday, scoring a hat trick in just a space of 11 minutes hammering visitors Karonga United.
This is the fastest hat-trick in the Super League of Malawi since Telekom Network Malawi started sponsoring the league.
Duwe of Civil Service United was the main man for the servants when he banged a hat trick to boast a top four finish in the 2024 Super league.
The game started on a high note with both sides playing an attacking game at Civo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Whilst the home team operated from the midfield thanks to a superb performance of Moses Banda and Blessings Malinda, the visitors utilised the wings for their attacks.
Regardless of the few chances created from both ends in the first half no one was able to unlock each other’s defence forcing the game to end goalless at recess.
In the second half Abas Makawa rested Chikaiko Batson, China Chirwa and Christopher Gototo for Duwe, Chifundo Ngapemba and Matthews Ntalakwesi.
At 60 minutes, Civil won a free kick that was well taken by Malinda that hit the woodwork for Duwe to slot it home from a rebound.
Seven minutes later, Duwe made a beautiful run and created space outside the 18 yard box and released a thunderbolt shot with his left foot to complete a brace in style.
To add icing on the cake the servants got a penalty at 74 minutes following a handball in the box and Duwe stepped up and delivered a beauty to seal a win for the servants.
This is the highest margins scored between the two sides since 2022.
The win takes Civil to 42 points from 28 games on fifth place whilst Karonga sits eighth on the standings with 38 points from 28 games.
