Blue Eagles coach Eliah Kananji defended the use of old guards, saying that their experience is invaluable to the team’s young players.
Kananji made these remarks after his team’s 2-1 win over Mighty Tigers away at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Despite some analysts questioning the team’s continued reliance on older players, including Sankhani Mkandawire, Mecium Mhone, Christopher John Banda, Schumacher Kuwali and Gilbert Chirwa.
Kananji believes that their wisdom and experience are essential to the team’s development and future.
“In football, you can’t force someone to retire. Players will know when it’s time to stop. We want their wisdom to benefit our younger players,” said Kananji.
“It’s not possible to only play young players; that could cause problems. But as time goes on, you’ll see us using more young players because they’ll have learned a thing or two,” he added.
In the match against Mighty Tigers, Eagles took the lead through Tonic Viyuyu’s goal in the 19th minute.
Grayson Msowoya equalized for the Kau Kau boys in the 23rd minute. However, Viyuyi scored again minutes later, securing a 2-1 win for Blue Eagles.
