Airborne Rangers 1-2 Blue Eagles
Blue Eagles FC continued their ascent to the top of the Central Region Chipiku Premier Division League with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Airborne Rangers on Sunday afternoon, 22nd December 2024, at ADL Ground.
Airborne Rangers took the lead in the first half through Chisomo Wane, but the goal was not enough to secure a win for the Salima-based team. The men from Police Headquarters equalised in the second half through Patrick Mponda. The decisive goal came from Sankhani Mkandawire, who is also part of the Blue Eagles’ technical panel.
Speaking after the match, Blue Eagles head coach Elijah Kananji praised his players for their hard work and resilience, particularly their ability to come from behind and take a win. He said finishing was a challenge in the first half, but after making key tactical changes, the team’s play improved, which ultimately led to their victory.
Airborne Rangers’ coach Christopher Kalira, however, expressed his dissatisfaction with the loss, attributing the defeat to the officiating, which he believes played a major role in Eagles’ success.
In other matches over the weekend, Mbadzi United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Villa FC on Saturday, 21st December 2024. On Sunday, 22nd December 2024, Armour Battalion lost 2-0 to Extreme FC, Ekas Freight Wanderers fell 3-2 to Wimbe United, and Panthers FC were defeated 2-1 by Chatoloma Admarc.
