Eight star players have emerged as top contenders for the Rainbow Paints Blantyre District Netball League Player of the Week Award following an impressive performance in the second round of the league.

These athletes, who were instrumental in their teams’ performances over the weekend, have caught the attention of both fans and sponsors alike.

The nominees include Mercy Kambalame of Airforce Sisters and Grecelia Banda of Prison Queens, known for her agility and precision.

MUBAS’s goal shooter Gladys Andson, and Christina Type a goal defender for Pacers also made the list thanks to their scoring prowess and solid defence.

Kukoma Diamonds’ Grace Chazungulilia and Giants’ goalkeeper Esther Phiri have also been recognised for their outstanding contributions on the court.

Rounding out the nominees are Elizabeth Stonard of Shizaela Queens and Wongani Biton from Blantyre Tremors both of whom delivered game-changing performances in their recent matches.

Sponsored by GM Plastics Industry, this award not only celebrates individual excellence but also engages the netball community by allowing fans to vote for their favourite player via the company’s Facebook page.

The stakes are high as the winner will walk away with a K50 000 cash prize and additional items from the sponsor.

This selection of nominees underscores the depth of talent within the league and the competitive spirit that drives these athletes to excel.
