Ekhaya FC in Champions Cup quarter final

Ekhaya FC made it into the quarter final of the Champions Cup in Mponela, Dowa on Sunday, September 29th after knocking out Kalonga Rovers 3-2.

Rovers looked more energetic in the whole first half of the game as they pressurized the Blantyre cowboys but failed to utilize their chances as the first half ended goalless.

In the second half, Rovers scored the opener in the 46 minutes through Eto’o Mitowe, but Safton Chimtokoma came with an equalizer on 52 minutes.
After equalizing, Ekhaya dominated play and within minutes, they were ahead through Matamando Matchipitsa, he scored a third for the visiting team completing his brace.

Rovers pulled another from Chikondi Phiri but it was not possible to stop Ekhaya who won the match 3-2 and qualified for the next round.

Ekhaya coach is former Flames left back Moses Chavula who was happy with the result but said he team has a lot to improve.

“Yes we have won the match but we had problems at the back which we need to rework.

Reacting to the defeat, Evance Munthali coach for Rovers accepted the defeat and he congratulated Ekhaya for progressing to quarter finals.

He said his team played well as were first on the ball in the first half but failed to contain pressure.

“We relaxed after getting the goal which was bad,” he said.
In the other match played at the Champion Stadium ON Saturday, Mbabvi progressed into the quarter final after a 2-0 victory against Simbi.

Teams that have progressed into the quarter finals are Silver Strikers Reserve, Chisomo Academy, Villa FC and Ekhaya FC.
