Ekhaya suspends Missi, told to pay K3 million to Sulom

Wa Ganyu

It’s a double suspension! Just days after the Super League of Malawi suspended Ekhaya FC goalkeeper Elias Missi for strangling FCB Nyasa Big Bullets striker Babatunde Adepoju, the club has also suspended the player and ordered him to pay K3 million.

Sulom, on July 28, suspended Missi for the next three league matches and fines Ekhaya to pay K3 million for bringing the league into disrepute.

Wa Ganyu can confirm that Ekhaya has also taken action towards the former Bullets and Bangwe Stars goalkeeper to suspend him from all Ekhaya activities.

The suspension means that Missi, their first choice goalkeeper, will not attend the team’s training, meetings and matches.

The club has also told Missi that they will be deducting his salary to cover the K3 million fine imposed by Sulom. Missi receives around K500 000 as salary.

He has been suspended: Missi

Apart from the Adepoju incident, Wa Ganyu has been informed that Missi is also accused of influencing their 3-1 defeat to Silver Strikers in the league last week.

Ekhaya claims that they have received sound reports that Missi gave away goals deliberately to help Bankers win. It was the first time since their promotion into elite league for Missi and Ekhaya to concede three goals in a match.

The club is investigating those reports from Lilongwe per Wa Ganyu understanding.
