FAM at war with Sulom over Kamuzu Stadium

Wa Ganyu here to confirm….

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has warned the Super League of Malawi that they will face penalties in accordance with the applicable club licensing regulations if they proceed with fixing a match at Kamuzu Stadium.

FAM said the stadium is not fit to host matches and will conduct further assessments before making an informed decision.

Earlier today, Sulom wrote to FAM informing them that Kamuzu Stadium is the venue for the FDH Bank Premiership launch and asked them to verify.

The launch match between Mighty Wanderers and Karonga United is scheduled for this Saturday, 25 April, at Kamuzu Stadium—a stadium which FAM condemned.

A letter dated April 23, which Wa Ganyu has seen, said: “Sulom would like to inform you that the official launch match between Mighty Wanderers and Karonga United will be held at Kamuzu Stadium. We kindly request FAM to proceed with final verification on the issues observed.”

But in a response, FAM said the request was submitted less than 48 hours before the scheduled match.

It reads: “This timeframe is insufficient to allow for a comprehensive inspection and for the relevant committee to adequately deliberate and make an informed decision on the suitability of the venue.”

The letter, which has been signed by FAM’s GS Abdulrahman Chiwalo, also warned Sulom: “Please note that failure to comply with this directive may result in the imposition of penalties in accordance with the applicable club licensing regulations.”

With just a day remaining, it is not yet known which stadium will host the launch. Meanwhile, the visiting team, Karonga United, arrived in Blantyre at exactly 4:10 pm today, as captured by Wa Ganyu cameras while passing Lunzu.
