The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has appointed former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets coach Kalisto Pasuwa as Malawi senior men’s football team head coach, Wa Ganyu can confirm.Β

The appointment of the Zimbabwean tactician comes just two days following a FAM Technical Sub-committee meeting, which took place at the weekend.

A source told Wa Ganyu that Pasuwa’s name was agreed to by the majority of members who attended the meeting.

“When the name of Pasuwa was introduced, every member was in support, and the meeting agreed that he should take charge,” said the source.

Pasuwa will be given the freedom to select his backroom staff, but according to our findings, he has decided to bring on board fellow countryman Michael Ngore, who worked under him at Bullets as a performance assessment coach.

Pasuwa arrived in the country on Thursday last week two days before FAM’s meeting to decide Flames’ coach.

FAM President Fleetwood Haiya had confirmed Pasuwa’s arrival.

Once the deal is finalised, Pasuwa will replace Patrick Mabedi who was fired in October last year.

Pasuwa is not new. As interim coach, he led Malawi to a goalless draw against Burundi before recording a rare 3 nil home victory against Burkina Faso games in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

During his caretaker role, he worked with Peter Mponda as his assistant.
