They meant to have a friend as their name suggests, but Friends of Orphans (FOMO) FC had none at Mulanje Park when they were beaten 3-0 at home by Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in the TNM Super League.
They could be heard at the stands calling for support, though their coach Gilbert Chirwa made substitutions to bring change but that could not change the status.
It was three quick goals at the start of the second half from Felix Zulu, Wisdom Mpinganjira and Peter Cholopi in a space of five minutes.
It was a shocking response from Mighty Mukuru Wanderers who failed to utilize their five scoring chances in the first half.
Zulu was first with a powerful drive at 49 minutes into the net. FOMO took the ball to the centre for a restart and seconds later the ball was back in their net. This time it was Mpinganjira’s effort from a Stanly Sanudi pass.
Cholopi who replaced injured Lawrence Chaziya scored at 54 minutes sending a powerful header into the net and it was enough for the rookies.
Changes were made from both sides with Wanderers introducing players to hold the ball and the home team introducing offensive players but that could not change the scoreline.
Chirwa was disappointed with the result but promised to be a changed side in the next match.
Wanderers assistant coach Meck Mwase was happy with their first maximum points after collecting a point at home against Kamuzu Barracks in their league opener.
“We tried to make different combinations which worked for us. I am happy with my boys,” he said.
